Over sh.30 million was spent during the Nakuru International Investor Conference (NIICO) held in Naivasha in 2018.
This was revealed through a statement submitted at the County assembly of Nakuru on Tuesday by Chair Trade and Cooperative Committee who is also Kapkures Ward MCA Paul Kimutai.
The statement adds that the aim of the Nakuru International Investor Conference was to boost investment by Marketing Nakuru to international level.
The statement further outlined how the money was used during the organization of the conference amounting to sh 30.9 million.
“”The committee can clearly state that over Sh.30 million was spent during the conference that was aimed at marketing Nakuru” he said.
The statement was sought by Naivasha East MCA Stanley Karanja who had sought a statement to know how the money was spent and what the county benefited.
Responding after the statement was submitted to the floor of the house, MCA Karanja stated that, I have seen the report and will be scrutinizing it further”.
According to Karanja, the county might have used a lot of funds for nothing.
He wondered whether there have been any new investors in Nakuru since the conference was held.
“We should be told where these investors are since the conference was held” said Karanja.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui had termed NIICO a one-of-a-kind initiative that sees the county partner with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Kenya Investment Authority, Egerton University, Kabarak University and Oserian Flowers in creating a platform to network with local and international business leaders interested in investing in the county.
